Troubleshooting

Upload stuck or failed? How to fix it

Last updated · 2 min read

Short answer

Check the file is a PDF, DOCX, TXT, audio or video file, keep the tab open until the upload reaches 100%, and give processing a few minutes. If the progress card shows failed, go back to the dashboard and upload again. Scanned PDFs, PDFs over 2,000 pages and very long recordings are the usual causes. A failed upload never uses up your free preview.

Before you start

  • Know your file: type (PDF, DOCX, TXT, audio, video), size and, for PDFs, page count.
  • A steady connection. Big files need a stable connection to upload.

Steps

  1. Check the file type. Only PDF, Word (.docx), text (.txt), audio and video files work. Save slides or .doc files as PDF first. See supported files and limits.
  2. Keep the tab open during the upload. Wait until “Uploading source into Galileo…” finishes. After that, processing carries on even if you leave.
  3. Give it time. Documents usually take a minute or two; recordings a few minutes. We email you when it’s ready.
  4. Reload the session. If the progress card hasn’t moved for 15 minutes, reload the page or open the session from History.
  5. Upload again from the dashboard if the card shows failed.
  6. Make the file smaller if it fails again: split a long PDF, upload one chapter, or upload just the audio of a video.
