Organise your notes and sessions with folders

Last updated · 1 min read

Short answer

Folders live in the sidebar. Choose the folder-plus button (Create folder) to add one, the menu next to a folder to Rename or Delete it, and Move to folder in a Galileo session (or Move to Folder in a note's menu) to file your work. Everything starts in General. Deleting a folder moves its notes back to General; it never deletes them.

Before you start

  • Plan needed: the 7-day free trial or a subscription.

Steps

Create a folder

  1. In the sidebar, find Folders and choose the folder-plus button (Create folder).
  2. Type a name, such as the course code, and confirm.

Rename or delete a folder

  1. Hover over the folder in the sidebar and open its menu.
  2. Choose Rename to change the name, or Delete.
  3. For Delete folder, read the warning and confirm. Notes in it move to General.

Move a Galileo session into a folder

  1. Open the session.
  2. Choose the folder button (Move to folder) in the top-right corner and pick a folder.

Move, copy, export or delete a note

Notes such as imported web pages open in the note view. Open the note’s More options menu (three dots) and choose:

  • Copy to Clipboard to copy the text.
  • Export as PDF to download it.
  • Import from Notion to add a Notion page to it. See connect Google Calendar and Notion.
  • Move to Folder to file it.
  • Delete to remove it permanently.

Search your work

Use the search box in the sidebar (“Search notes, canvas, folders…”) to find notes, Canvas boards and folders by name. For Galileo sessions, files and generated items, use History.

Tips

  • One folder per course keeps things simple. Add a second folder per course only for exam prep.
  • Rename sessions so their titles say what they cover. See manage Galileo sessions.

If something goes wrong

  • “Error creating folder”. A folder with that name may already exist. Try a different name.
  • A note disappeared from a folder. The folder may have been deleted, moving the note to General. Check there, then search.
  • More help: can’t find my notes.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to notes when I delete a folder?

They move to the General folder. Duetoday shows this warning before you confirm: 'all notes in this folder will be moved to the General folder.'

Can I rename or delete General?

No. General is the default folder and is always there.

Can I put a folder inside another folder?

No. Folders are one level deep. Use clear names, such as 'BIO101 – Midterm' and 'BIO101 – Final'.

Is there a recycle bin?

No. Deleted notes and sessions can't be recovered, so export anything important first.
