Creating notes

How to turn a YouTube video into notes in Duetoday

Duetoday Help Centre · Updated

Short answer

Copy the YouTube video's link, choose New Note in Duetoday, pick the YouTube or website option and paste the link. Duetoday extracts the transcript and builds notes you can turn into flashcards and quizzes. With the Chrome extension you can do it from the video page itself.

Steps

  1. Copy the video link from YouTube’s address bar or the Share button.
  2. Open your Duetoday dashboard and choose New Note.
  3. Choose the YouTube or website link option and paste the link.
  4. Wait while Duetoday extracts the transcript. You will see a progress message while it works.
  5. Open the note. You get organised notes built from the video, with the transcript kept alongside.
  6. Turn it into study material. Generate flashcards or a quiz, or ask Galileo to explain a part of the video you did not follow.

Tips

  • Use it for the videos your lecturer assigns. Turning a recommended video into notes means it is searchable alongside the rest of your module.
  • Combine with your own lecture. A YouTube explanation plus your lecture recording, both in one folder or Canvas, gives Galileo two angles on the same topic.
  • Check timings for key moments. If a note looks thin, the transcript shows exactly what was said.
  • Website links work too. The same option accepts ordinary web pages, such as an article or a course page.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work for long lectures?

Yes. Full-length recorded lectures are one of the most common uses. Longer videos take a little more time to process than short tutorials.

What if the video has no captions?

Duetoday needs to get a transcript of the video to build notes. If a transcript cannot be extracted, try downloading the lecture audio (where you are allowed to) and uploading it as a file instead.

Can I do this without leaving YouTube?

Yes. Install the Duetoday Chrome extension and use the Learn with Duetoday button on the video page to create study material from it.
