Make study guides, cheatsheets and drafts with Galileo

Short answer

In a Galileo session with a source, choose the plus button next to the Summary tab and pick Study Guide, Report, Lesson Plan, Cheatsheet or Glossary. Galileo writes it as a document in a new tab. For more formats, choose Browse Templates in the Galileo panel to open the blueprint library. To draft an essay or report, choose Draft on the dashboard.

Before you start

  • A session with a source (an upload, link or recording) for study guides, cheatsheets and other documents.
  • Plan needed: the 7-day free trial or a subscription.

Steps: generate a document from your source

  1. Open the session for your upload.
  2. Choose the plus button next to the tabs at the top (“Generate a live document”).
  3. Pick a template under Templates: Study Guide, Report, Lesson Plan, Cheatsheet or Glossary.
  4. Watch it write. The document opens in its own tab while Galileo writes it.
  5. Regenerate if needed. Open the plus menu again and choose the regenerate button next to the current document.

How to use the blueprint library

  1. In the Galileo panel, choose Browse Templates, or choose Browse at the bottom of the plus menu.
  2. Pick a category: Learning, Teaching, Mini Project Management or Normal Meeting, or use Search….
  3. Choose a blueprint such as Exam Prep Sprint, Knowledge Gaps Finder, Memory Hooks Pack or Oral Exam Drill. Galileo builds it from your source.
  4. Choose the bookmark to Save blueprint for next time.

How to draft an essay, report or outline

  1. On the dashboard, choose Draft under the prompt box.
  2. Describe what you need, for example “1,500-word essay on the causes of the First World War for a history class”.
  3. Answer Galileo’s short questions about length, audience and style, choosing Next for each, or Skip. Then choose Start Draft.
  4. Read the draft and ask for changes in the chat.

Export and share a document

When a document opens as a card, use Download, Share, Convert to Google Docs or Save to Google Drive. To export the whole session, use the download button at the top of the session and choose Export PDF or Export DOCX.

Tips

  • A cheatsheet the night before, a study guide a week before: match the format to your timeline.
  • Glossaries are great flashcard sources. Ask “Make flashcards from this glossary”.

If something goes wrong

  • The plus button isn’t there. It only appears in sessions that have a source.
  • “Could not generate questions. You can skip and start drafting.” Choose Skip and then Start Draft.
  • The document is too generic. Ask Galileo to “use only the uploaded lecture” or to add examples from the source.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the document Galileo writes?

You can ask Galileo to change it in the chat ('make the glossary shorter', 'add a section on causes'). To edit it yourself, export it with Export DOCX and open it in Word or Google Docs.

Can I save a blueprint I use often?

Yes. In the blueprint library, choose the bookmark on a blueprint to save it. Saved blueprints appear under Saved in the plus menu.

Will Draft write my essay for me?

It writes a first draft to help you get started and see a structure. Rewrite it in your own words and follow your school's rules on AI use.
